Clarence update....

A second post just to post some updated pictures of NB Clarence. The build is getting to the 'exciting' stage it seems and the latest post from her owners suggest they are too!
You know things are 'getting there' when the TV is installed....
....as well as the fridge for the beers!
.....and yes - that is an engine even installed!
My unnoficial survey of boat yards reactions to the diesel issue has now crept into the lead the number of yards who plan to sell at a 60/40 split with no choice, one price at the pump and a 'take it or leave it' attitude. OK the margin is only 1 but in a survey sample of 6, 1 is a statistical significance!! Personally I think that's what should have happened to start with. That way, we would have all had a little moan, got over it and got on with life - watch this space......

That's all very well for you, Andy, but you have a teacher's salary, with all the little responsibility supplements.
For those of us who are struggling to keep afloat (financially) the difference between 60/40 and 35/65 (my current calculation) is significant.
It's an easy enough calculation for a boatyard to sell two quantities at two prices.

Fair point John! My worry would be that many yards simply won't allow a lower rate of propulsion to be declared than the recommended 60% on the grounds that it makes it very hard when they have to complete their tax returns! This will make it very hard to actually find a yard that will be prepared to sell you diesel at your 35/65split. It also becomes very messy when you look at the detail in that in order to claim a lower rate of propulsion than 60%, you need concrete evidence of having an authorised, official residential mooring, (ie. you need a council tax bill of the mooring address,) many residential boaters, especially those who are CC simply won't have that and so are being unfairly penalised or run a risk of getting caught by Mr. Taxman if they self declare at a lower rate than that recommended by HMC!
